TransplantPath

TransplantPath is a read only system which was launched by NHSBT in March 2024 to replace the legacy Electronic Offering System (EOS). Unlike EOS, TransplantPath enables access to files, photos and videos taken during the characterisation and retrieval process.

TransplantPath aims to support and increase the number of organs available for transplant through improved organ assessment capabilities.

All information is accessed through a single digital platform, improving surgical decisions to ensure the best possible outcome for donors and their recipients.

Additionally, TransplantPath users can view vital information such as DCD observations, kidney anatomy, retrieval timings and the donor's organ outcome.

FutureNHS is safe, easy to use and supports a growing network of people who want to connect with others, learn and share.

For the safe delivery of TransplantPath, and our ongoing ability to connect with its users, we needed a central location, accessible to all, to store all user guides and support information.

NHSBT does not manage accounts for FutureNHS. All account preferences can be set by the user and any problems should be directed to support@futurenhs.zendesk.com.

TransplantPath access is required for clinicians who need to review deceased donor information, previously obtained from EOS.

This includes anyone who is required to review characterisation, organ images or videos and documents related to a donor for the purposes of organ transplant or approved research studies.

Please note, FutureNHS is a password protected platform and you will need an NHS email to register for an account.

If you are having difficulties creating a FutureNHS account, please contact them directly via email support@futurenhs.zendesk.com.

For research colleagues without an NHS email, please email TransplantPathTeam@nhsbt.nhs.uk who will request your access.

To ensure data protection and security, your account request will go through two stages of validation.

• Firstly, you will need to register with FutureNHS to access further information and the TransplantPath user guides.

• Before requesting a TransplantPath account, you must watch the user guides. You must then complete section 1 of the external user access request form, agreeing to the 'Acceptable Terms of Use'.

• Once you have completed section 1 of FRM7417, section 2 of the form must be completed by your local TransplantPath account approver. Email your form to your local approver.
  • Find your local TransplantPath approver
• Your approver will validate your request and return the completed form to NHSBT Service Desk who will validate the form and, if correct, provide your account credentials via email.

You are required to agree the 'Acceptable Terms of Use' every time you request a new or amended account.

You will need to request an ‘Amend’ to your TransplantPath user account by submitting the request form FRM7417. 

Complete the request form FRM7417 and select the ‘Amend’ option for ‘Type of Application’. Continue with the form as instructed and then send to your local TransplantPath approver who will submit this to the NHSBT Service Desk on your behalf.

TransplantPath is a read only system. It is easy to use and everything you need to know is available on the TransplantPath Central Hub - FutureNHS Collaboration Platform.

The user guides available will support you to navigate and understand the donor record. You may also find the useful tips section helpful, which includes trouble shooting suggestions and answers to frequently asked questions.

Every centre has a local TransplantPath Lead, available locally for support or to help you with any questions you may have.

When you are granted a TransplantPath account, you will also receive access to the TransplantPath Training Environment which allows you to familiarise yourself and explore safely.

There are many useful trouble shooting guides that you can access on FutureNHS.

You can access donor records dated from 20 September 2022 in TransplantPath using the normal search function.

Donor records dated from 22 September 2022 to 21 March 2024 (TransplantPath go live date) that are viewed in TransplantPath will only contain data that existed at the time of the record creation.

There is a formal process for accessing NHSBT data for donors prior to 20 September 2022. Please refer to the access data guidance on the ODT Clinical website.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for improvements, please complete the improvement request form.

All change requests will be considered by the system owner and appropriate stakeholders. The request will be considered in terms of complexity, impact on other systems (DonorPath/NTXD), potential impact on other users and benefits.

If accepted, the change will be added to the back log and considered for future releases.

Requests are reviewed periodically so please be patient with us. We really value your feedback and will come back to you and confirm the outcome of your request.

Known functionality and outage issues with the TransplantPath system are updated within the FutureNHS TransplantPath Central Hub.

As with any IT system, there will be periodic planned outages to maintain the platform. The date and anticipated time of these planned outages will be communicated to you via email. Business continuity plans are in place to support clinical activity during periods of outage. 

There is also a potential for unplanned outages. In this scenario, if you are alerted to a problem, please call the Service Desk on 0300 2000 173 to report the issue. Again, business continuity processes will ensure the continuation of clinical activity.
